Kathie Raquel
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. I attended LAUSD schools and graduated from Granada Hills High School. I received my BA in Child Development and Psychology from CSUN. My junior year was spent studying comparative education at Uppsala University, in Sweden. After earning my elementary teaching credential I ventured to a small farming town outside of Sakai, Japan to teach English.
The next year I began my career with LAUSD. I have had the pleasure of teaching 28 classes, from Kindergarten-4th grade.
I began teaching at Vintage Magnet in 2009. I feel privileged to be in the field of education and especially to work at Vintage- with such eager students, supportive parents, and a talented, dedicated staff. Along with teaching I have served as a Reading specialist/intervention director, GATE coordinator, Mentor Teacher, and have coached 12 CSUN student teachers.
My husband is an engineer at KCAL/KCBS. We have two children, Torie and Andrew. Our family enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling together. I have fun participating in sprint triathlons and half/full marathons. Last summer I was awarded a fellowship and spent 2 weeks in the Ecuadorian rain forest to research the effects of climate change on caterpillars. It was an adventure of a lifetime!
My personal motto is
Work hard, Play hard.
